Students will explain the reasons why the Catholic Church became weak and what lead up to the Protestant Reformation.

Lesson Introduction (Hook/Access Prior Knowledge)
The lesson will begin by watching a video about the Reformation that gives them an overview. Many of the students will recognize events, locations, and names. This will access prior knowledge and set them up for the unit.

After students watch a video introducing them to the lesson, they will be given a sheet to take notes on, The Reformation Power Point worksheet. They will use this to take notes with while watching an 18 slide presentation on Prezi that gives detailed information about the weakening of the church. This sheet will be used for the entire unit to refer back to. Students will have key vocabulary that will be discussed after the presentation.

Students will create a reformation pamphlet working in pairs. They will discuss and together complete the first section of the pamphlet. Over the course of the unit, they will have completed the pamphlet. Students will use notes from presentation, the internet, and their textbook as resources.

Students will be graded based on a rubric for the completed sections of the pamphlet. I will monitor their progress by walking around the room, observing their method of research. If students have questions along the way, I can provide assistance when necessary.

Lesson Closure
Students will work in pairs to share their pamphlet and exchange ideas. We will have a whole-class wrap-up once everyone has shared their pamphlets. Students will make some assumptions about the upcoming sections in the pamphlet.

Accommodations for English Learners, Struggling Readers and Students with Special Needs
Sentence frames have been provided in the pamphlet, making this lesson accessible for all learners. Working in pairs promotes practice with speaking and encourages questions within the team. Having students work in pairs provides an opportunity for the teacher to walk around and monitor group progress and discussions. Additional assistance can be provided during this time also where needed.
